Chatting
Talk to any model & tools with history, threads and more.
Introduction
Chats are the most basic way to start using AI models and tools with TaskLift. Just go to the Chat section, type your query and hit Send to start the conversation with AI.
Each time you send a new message, TaskLift will run the typical AI chat completion flow in which it submits the entire conversation history including the latest message in order for AI to provide response with awareness of the entire conversation (except for the thinking parts received from reasoning models which are rightfully truncated from subsequent submissions).
Each such submission will use as many input tokens as AI needs to process the entire history and as many output tokens as AI needs to respond. Input & output token usage will be accounted within your monthly usage and billed through credits as described on the Pricing page. You can check the current usage in the Usage section of your profile.
Configuration
Each chat completion calls the selected AI model with specific model & tool configuration, all of which contributes into the behaviour of the AI and the response that you'll get.
You can select the model to call by clicking on the Model selector below the message input. This will open the model selector which allows to browse, search and pick the desired model from amongst all that you own or that are built-in and available for zero-effort use. You may also visit the Models section to manage your models.
Similarly, you can select one or multiple tools to make available for AI model by clicking on the Tools selector below the message input. This will open the tools selector which allows to browse, search and pick the desired tool(s) from amongst all that you own or that are built-in and available for zero-effort use. You may also visit the Tools section to manage your tools.
Finally, you may adjust further configuration such as model instructions by clicking on the Adjust button below the message input. This will open the configration modal. Follow the information included there to configure your chat as desired.
Threads
If you scroll the chat from top to bottom you will see your messages and AI responses. All of these make a chat thread which, as described above, is what's consumed by AI model during further chat completions.
At any point during the conversation you may take a step back & give it another shot by forking the thread in one of following ways:
- by editing and re-sending any of your past messages (by clicking the Edit button)
- by regenerating any of AI responses (by clicking the Regenerate button)
In both of these cases the thread will be forked and the previous messages below the fork point will disappear from the new thread. They won't be gone though - you'll see Previous Thread and Next Thread buttons below your message, allowing to switch between the threads.
History
All your chats are stored and available for future reading and further conversation. Their retention is based on your subscription plan as described on the Pricing page.
To browse and switch between your past chats, click the Filter button and pick the desired chat from the left-side menu.
Files
TaskLift supports multi-modal (meaning other than just textual) input for AI models. Currently only image files are supported for models with native image input support. Learn more on the Uploading And Storing Files page.
