Uploading And Storing Files
Submit files within chats and access them later.
Introduction
TaskLift comes with robust support for uploading files of any type. There are two main ways to make your uploads available to AI models:
- Direct Model Input (Images Only): JPEG and PNG images are passed directly to AI models as a multi-modal (meaning other than just textual) input. Currently only image files are supported this way - we're yet to see a wider adoption of other formats such as audio, PDF, DOCX etc amongst general purpose AI models. With this approach, token usage depends on the image size and the way specific model tokenizes images.
- File Uploads Tool (All File Types): For all other file types (PDF, DOCX, audio, ZIP, etc.), or if you want the AI to access and manage image files itself, use the built-in File Uploads tool. This allows the AI to read, download, and even upload files into the chat in order to provide them for download and further queries. With this approach, token usage depends on how much content will the AI model extract via issued commands and code snippets.
File Upload
To upload a file, click the Add Files button below the message input in the Chat. On mobile, you may also take a photo directly from your camera.
File Management
You can preview your stored files by visiting the File Uploads section in your profile menu.
You'll see a list of files with thumbnails (for images) and information about their size and upload date. Click on any file to open a modal with following features:
- Preview: larger preview for media and documents
- Chat: button that allows to start a new chat with the file
- Download: button that allows to download the file
- Delete: button that allows to delete the file
- Related Chats: a clickable list of chats where the file has been used
Preview supports media files (images, audio, video), documents (PDF, plain text) and code (with syntax highlighting for supported languages).
If you delete a file that's still being used in a chat, that chat will lose access to the file for future completions or display.
Drives
You can also create Drive tools, which let the AI access and store files permanently. See the Storing Data On Persistent Drives page for more information.
